Back in June, we showed the icon design for 'Jethro', an advanced piece of DGPS (Digital Global Positioning System) software from The Acclaimed Software Company. Jethro has been specifically designed for farmers and farm contractors and the USP of this product is its unique GUI (Graphical User Interface) showing a graphical render of the tractor or Combine in use from above in the correct size and shape field, showing where the operator has been, and where they need to go next.
The Software was shown during a trade show in July to high acclaim (pardon the pun) and went on sale in August as a 'paid for' download. The take-up was very good and high praise came back from the people actually operating it, none higher, in fact, than the review from Farmers Weekly magazine who said:
"...but it's the computer-game graphics that are striking, with the ability to drop a flag on a spot you want to return to, flashing icons that show if you're straying off the straight-and-narrow and even a reversing camera mode. It also does auto-boom shut-off, runs Word and can access the internet."
Praise indeed. It goes to show a great product with some great design can become more than the sum of its parts.
