If we have already met or I have spoken to you, hello! If you don’t know me, my name is Laura, I'm in Year 10 at Spalding High School and currently on work experience here at statusdesign.
I applied to statusdesign for my work experience because I am interested in all aspects of design, especially textiles and graphics, and hoped I would learn a lot from working in a professional studio for two weeks.
I was quite nervous on my first day because I didn’t know anyone and was a bit worried that I wouldn't be very good at the jobs that would be given to me, but Mark and Lizzie made me feel comfortable, and I soon realised that Martin, Matt and Stanley weren't as scary as they first seemed!
I have done numerous jobs including purchasing domain names, compiling files to CD and producing and cutting labels, I've also done some of the more tedious jobs like unpacking boxes and organising magazines. Mark and I went to Peterborough to make a delivery to a big client, on the way he explained more about the design process and we visited some of the companies that Statusdesign produce work for.
Each day I have been shown a new process, like using a scanner, how to use QuarkXPress and other programs on the Apple computers, which I have also never used before. I have been told a lot of new information and tried to take it all in because it's interesting and should be useful when I leave school.
I'm enjoying work experience a lot because I get to try new things, be creative and see how things work in a proper business. Working with the guys in the studio, and Lizzie of course, has been a pleasure as they are all really nice, they have all helped me and explained things, been patient with me and made me laugh.
I also do many extra-curricular activities too, both musical and sporting. Currently I am playing grade 8 piano and teaching myself how to play the guitar. I play rugby, hockey, netball and football, I do athletics and cross country running but mainly swimming. I swim seven times a week at Lincoln Vulcans and I am at national standard as part of one of the country’s number one clubs.
I'm pleased I chose to work for statusdesign and it will be a shame to have to go back to school for my exams.
Thank you for putting up with me during work experience Status. |
